Hi guys, I'm torn and need help. I am currently running dual XFX HD7970 but I want to upgrade my GPUs to take advantage of VSR. Price is of no concern should I buy the R9 295x2 now or should I wait a little for the new HBM memory tech to reach the 295x2's level? But I don't want to wait to long, I have a itch for a new GPU and it needs to be scratched BAD!

My Pc specs
Asus Crosshair V formula-Z MB
FX 9590 on a 280mm RAD
16gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133
Samsung EVO 250gb ssd  and 1 2tb hhd
SoundBlaster Z sound card
1200watt PSU
and 9 case fans

Yeah, the 295x2 should be your best bet, as long as you can keep up with the heatout put and power consumption, but I see that you have a 1200W PSU, so you're fine

Early 2020 Build : Intel i7 8700k // MSI Krait Z370 // Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Aorus 5700 XT // NZXT H500

Early 2019 Build : Ryzen 2600X // Asus Tuff X470 // G.Skill Trident Z RGB 8x2 16GB // MSI RTX 2070 // NZXT H500

Late 2017 Build : Intel i7 8700k // Asus Prime Z370-A // G.Skill Trident Z 8x2 16GB // EVGA GTX 1080 Ti  // NZXT S320 Elite

Late 2015 Build : Intel i7 6700k // Asus Maximus VI Gene Z170 //  Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Gigabyte GTX 970 // Corsair Air 240

I may be wrong but you should be able to enable Super sampling in Catalyst with your current cards. I'm pretty sure its similar to VSR, maybe just a little more dated in terms of performance but still useful.

Why pay more for a 980 TI when the 295x2 still crushes the Titan X? That don't make sense to me.

Ummmm......

980Ti outperforms the 295X2

Costs the same (and is in a lot of cases cheaper) as the 295X2

Is only a single GPU

Puts out less heat

Takes less power

Won't cause global warming

Is quieter

Newer architecture

Will have better suppourt in the future

Better drivers

What was that again?

crushes the Titan X

I have watched 100 benchmark videos on YouTube and I've never seen the 980TI out perform a 295x2.   My concern is buying a 295x2 now and AMD releasing a newer better version in a few months
