So I am still rockin 8.1 and figure I should probably jump up to 8.4. Issue is, I really didn't want to have to redo all my jailbreak settings and such. I tried pkgbackup but it just crashes whenever I hit quick backup, so not sure what is up with that.

I know once before I did a update to my jailbroken phone, and once I rejailbroke the new version, all of my JB settings and apps where still present. I have no idea how that happened, but I am pretty sure it isn't the norm... or is it?

Its a huge pain in the ass to re set up all of the stuff (I have a good assortment of apps with lots of settings I won't even remember where they all are to tweak since its been over a year). Even if I can't get it backed up, is 8.4 a good enough upgrade to cost me hours of setup time? My 8.1 does crash springboard and mess up my app layout once or twice a week, sometimes more often, and maybe 8.4 would fix this as it should be more stable.

TLDR: Anyone know a JB app/settings backup besides pkgbackup that I can use to go from 8.1>8.4?

PKGBackup is the gold standard, bite the bullet and pay for the app.

I have it, and it's a godsend. If you're going to be in the business of jailbreaking, you'll certainly get your moneys worth out of it.

But, most of the apps that existed before PKGBackup weren't updated.

Short of manually backing up your cydia repo files, and then using some terminal commands to spit out the list of installed packages, not much else you can do.

Plus I wouldn't advise that as it doesn't check the firmware version first

to export the list:dpkg --get-selections >output-file to reimport:dpkg --set-selections <output-file

I got it (didn't pay for it, as a way to test it, used bitemyapple to DL it) but like I said, it just crashes :/. I don't think the paid version will work of the "free" version doesn't. I have never had an issue with a "free" version of anything. I would totally pay for it if it worked tho. I have been jail breaking since iphone 3 days, but didn't know this existed...

been around since the first JB on the OG iPhone, I upgrade every generation, and jailbreak them all ;)

those "free" versions are pirated, and not kept up to date. It probably crashes because it isn't the version compatible with iOS8

It is the most recent version, which is why I am worried it won't work. I looked quickly online and it looks like others have had issues with it working on 8.x, while others have not. And I don't want to pay for it just for it to not work :/. I have had that happen before, and the dev NEVER got back to me for a refund...

v8.0.7?

Yup. Once I hit quick backup, few seconds later app crashes and I'm dumped on home screen.

you need to go into the settings first and configure what will be backed up

Have you tried booting into substrate safe mode, and seeing if the same thing still happens?

I did set up settings, kinda no matter what I do it crashes, it crashes at different times, but never gets passed the click of quick backup.

I have not tried substrate safe mode tho. Good idea. I'll try that real fast.

I also, don't use the quick backup option,

I'll use the regular backup, then click details, and just skim and make sure its all there.

Just tried that in safe mode, still just crashes to desktop regardless of quick backup or normal backup. I don't get why it can't just work ;(

Thanks, but its more the settings of the tweaks that are important. I only have maybe ~20 tweaks, and I can que a bunch up in cydia at a time. Its setting up all the settings that takes the most time. I think I will wait a week or two for more apps to be supported by 8.4 and just waste the 3-4 hours redoing everything just in case 9.0 isn't breakable for a while so I am not stuck on this sorta unstable 8.1

8.1.2 is definitely stable

and I believe the tweak settings should all be in /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/

copy them off and back on with the same permissions as before, and you should be good to go

Yea, 8.1 just isn't. I get random springboard crashes every now and then, and I wasn't able to narrow it down to a specific tweak. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me, so i just started accepting it. Its not a big deal, just messes up my icons as I have a 5s and use spingtomize to put 6 rows instead of 5, so on respring I have to move some apps back around. Kinda dumb

I have a 6, and I use littleBrother to set the resolution to the 6+ resolution, and then betterFiveColumnHomeScreen and betterFiveIconDock.

With the 6+ resolution, a 6th row is already added for me

I just use springtomize to hide apps and change the font, it never got the spacing correct and looked funny

O and I use activator to say open App Store from double press cydia. Or open instagram from double press snap chat and a few more. So I do get a little more functionality than just 4x6. And I use the shit out of activator and virtual home to make the entire experience so much better. I swear if Apple made jail breaking an actual thing, holy shit they would capture like 30% more of the market in a single day.
