I found this odd looking device that was hung from a wire (for satellite tv) running along my house in the back yard. I didn't put it there and I live with my 3 year old son and 2 dogs.... whom I doubt put it there.

It looks like a wireless access point. But to put this where it was you'd have to get over the 10 foot walls around the yard then cross paths with a Labrador and Terrier.

It looks like it was designed to be water resistant, as it has a rubber gasket opening the battery cover and opening the unit itself there was another one. There was no brand markings anywhere on the unit.

Pictures to follow but this raised a few questions. Am I right in saying this is a wireless access point? I searched for the model number etc and found nothing on it.

If it is a wireless access point is it as simple as someone piggy backing off my wifi? Either so they don't have to pay for it or for more sinister purposes.

Is it possible it's transmitting audio or video (have ex wife issues lol - feel free to laugh with me). Ex wife issues though were years ago and this definitely wasn't there roughly 10 months ago as I painted the house.

WOW! This is messed up.

10feet walls protected by a Labrador and Terrier is no real big thing. If i were you, i would install security cameras around this area and report this to the cops....if you catch anyone cram the device down their throat.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

I would just see if the device is still pulling power from some sort of battery and if it is then destroy it :P

This is it:  http://www.gadgetize.co.uk/clocks/precision-radio-controlled-multi-coloured-weather-forecaster-with-wireless-sensor-ap031.html

Precision Radio Controlled Multi Coloured Weather Forecaster With Wireless Sensor AP031

One of your neighbours must have hang that wireless sensor outside of his house to get a weather reading, and someone or something toss it around.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

I agree, it looks the same and has the same serial number.

I'd still destroy it though if no one claims it within 1-3 days. Keep an eye on your internet usage / traffic especially wireless.

It's not unknown for people to put wireless repeaters in other harmless looking housings.

It's not a race to the bottom.
