***MODS PLEASE MOVE ACCORDINGLY IF THIS IS NOT THE APPROPRIATE SECTION***

With that disclaimer out of the way I enlist the help of you guys to see if you have any suggestions.

I have been tasked with setting up a private video streaming server. This server will broadcast a 720p live stream (I'd like to leave room for future proofing to 1080p if possible) to hypothetically no more than 50 clients at a time. Access must be delegated with some form of an authentication measure. Think of something along the lines of a token, password, etc.

What hardware and software is available for me to achieve this?

Any pro tips from anyone that has set up something similar before?

Are there any existing services available that you have used that won't require a server at all?

Desert Storm PC | Corsair 600T | ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ | AMD FX-8350 | MSI 7950 TFIII | 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 | Seasonic X650W I Samsung 840 series 500GB SSD

Mobile Devices I ASUS Zenbook UX31E I Nexus 7 (2013) I Nexus 5 32GB (red)

You can try this service. No need to setup a server, fast and easy.

Maybe it's better for such a few amount of clients.

Use a service, and not something like this. xD Servers can get expensive. There's cheaper barebones kits on amazon and newegg if you went this route. I just went a lil insane to prove a point.

why would you want to set up your own server when there are reliable companies that offer server and vpn services from multiple locations at little cost. :)

The person I'm doing it for wants it to be managed exclusively by us. I think I'll create a web server running apache and use VLC to stream.

Does anyone know if this is doable? It sounds doable from what I see on the VLC website.
