I have the old model macbook pro (Mid-2012) and i know that you can replace the hard drive and RAM.

I was wondering if anybody knew a good SSD that fits my guild lines, that I could use for this?

Guild Lines:

Compatible with Macbook Pro (Mid-2012)

At least 500 GB

Somewhere around $175

Sold from a reliable source

Sorry to tell you this but there is no way you can find an SSD that's 500GB for $175 for a Mac.

boop. Go samsung! lol

I like OWC, but most 2.5 SSD's will work fine.

Dunno what special requirements it'll have for a storage drive.. But a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB is $177

Nexxt cheapest good option is probably the OCZ Arc 100.

But you'd need to check the compatibility.

I don'T PreSS caPs.. I juST Hit THe keYboARd so HarD iT CriTs :P

If it is a a non retina then then https://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Pro_15%22_Unibody_Mid_2012 Any 2.5 inch SSD will work. Be aware of SSDs that have TRIM as Yosemite doesn't support TRIM on third part SSDs. El Capitan will though.

here is a PCPartPicker link that is sorted by cheapest 500GB SSDs http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/internal-hard-drive/#S=500000,8000000&t=0&sort=a10&page=1

SSDs from samsung work as I think I remember Linus doing a video for samsung about replacing a hard drive in a mac with a Samsung SSD

@Dietrichw

I wasn't sure if it had to use a special model or something so thanks for clearing that up and the IFixIt link looks like it will be really helpful once I buy the SSD.

Thanks for the help!  :)

You weren't too far off as far as I know. I looked into it when I bought my Macbook Pro

(Retina) recently, and for the newer PCIe SSDs they apparently switched to proprietary

SSD designs and you can't just use any old SSD anymore according to what I've read.
