Good video editing software to learn

I never edited a video before* I wanted to learn one of the programs. Which one is not only the most useful but also something that makes you look cooler when you tell people. Also will run okay with my system, don't really care about render time that much

*nothing crazy just normal things like on windows movie maker and adobe after effects, I don't really know much about after effects

Adobe Premiere Pro would be up your alley. It's good for compositing footage, and you can do some in-depth editing. It's not designed for effects like After Effects is, but a ton of people use it, including Linus Media Group. I myself am renting the Adobe Suite, and I'm working through the Premiere Pro CC 2015 Essential Training course right now.

Adobe Premier Pro would be the safest bet. As its used by most enthusiasts. But to start off, you can try Sony Vegas Pro but it isn't on par with premier pro.
