Alright, so I just put together my new pc with a i5 4460 and a 650 ti boost. The CPU is astonishing compared to my old q6600, very pleased in that department. However, my GPU isn't that great though it was free so I'm not going to complain. I'm going to get a new GPU by the end of the year, and I feel a 970 would be good. I'm sticking with team green as I'm not interested in three year old architectures or spending $650. Should I get the 2nd gen Maxwell 970 equivalent (gtx 1070 or whatever it may be) or get a marked down 970 around Christmas? I will be playing at 1080p and if I can do so while staying 60fps, I WILL DSR. I play anything and everything from CS:GO to DayZ.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

It really depends. Do you want to wait until the new series comes out or do you really need the extra performance?

The two games you've listed don't sound like they'd require a 970. Maybe you can expand a bit on what you would play?

Also, you know Hawaii will be two years old later this year, not three, right?

I'm talking about the 7850 and the 7950 (370 and 380)

The 1070 or X70 or whatever it's called will probably be a rebranded 980.

I will want to wait and see because Nvidia always brings something new to the table and if it is a 980 rebranded, I'm getting one for sure.
