I bought an Ibuypower PC about 3 years ago, I been slowly changing parts. Howvever, Now I want to change the CPU and the MotherBoard, But I heard i have clear my hardrives and install windows 8 again. With my Ibuypower pc they gave me a reinstallationn DVD. Will the DVD work when I clear my harddrives or do I have to buy windows 8 again.

You dont have to reinstall Windows for a CPU/Mobo upgrade.

 

However if you feel you need to clean some Hard Drive space, go ahead and backup your important files and re-install.

Don't be too quick to say he don't have to reinstall. Windows activation often don't like motherboard changes so it might decide that his key is not genuine after he changes.

OP do you have a Windows 8 sticker with a key somewhere? With a bit of luck you won't have to reinstall, but if you do you should be able to use that DVD and the key on the Windows 8 sticker to reinstall. Worst case scenario you will have to call Microsoft and read the key to them and they will fix it.

 I have the CD and the key. So do I just clear my hardrives, replace my old parts and turn on the pc then put in the CD?
