Otg Cable question

Hi everyone just had a question about the use of otg cables.  I am trying to use an external DAC with my LG G4 and so i have been trying to understand how to get this done.  When I have been looking some reviews of cables online, they have said that the cable was bricking their phone.  Is this something that can really happen or is this a legitimate concern.  Thanks
