Hardware reserved Ram?

Hey Everyone,

I just finished building my new computer and when I open task manager it says that 12.5 of my 16gb of ram are hardware reserved.

My Mobo is a Z97 SLI Krait Edition Mobo from MSI and my ram is the 16gb kit of Kingston HyperX Fury Ram clocked at 1866mhz

 

How can I unreserve some of this memory so I can use more than 3.5 gb?

Have you installed a 32bit os?

Its looks like you have a 32bit OS considering your max amount of usable ram is 3.5?

Look to the top right, it says 16.0GB, also says in the bottom right that 12.5 is system reserved.

You'll want/need to go into your bios and disable or cut back the amount allowed for the iGPU, or other possible onboard stuff that might be taking up system memory.

It turns out that I have installed a 32-bit OS by accident. How can I upgrade that to 64-Bit?

It turns out that I have installed a 32-bit OS by accident. How can I upgrade that to 64-Bit?

You'll have to reinstall windows, run the installer, it should prompt you to tell you there's a preexisting windows install and it will be moved to C:/Windows.old.

Of course that is dependent on the fact that you have enough space for another install.
