This is my future build and I was wondering if I wanted to OC to a decent speed, say 4.2Ghz +, would this be sufficient cooling? I have a CM Storm Scout 2 case and there are 5 spots for fans (I believe all can have 140mm). I have a $20 CM rebate card coming in, eventually, so I wasn't sure if just going for that CPU cooler is worth it or if I should just use that rebate towards another 2 case fans for the top to increase air flow through the case. Basically I just want to know if it's worth investing in a better CPU Cooler for overclocking or if this will do for when I build it. Who knows maybe I'll get santa to bring me an h100i :P

i always say invest in a good cooler.

Noctua makes some of the best air coolers. They will send you new mounting hardware for free. if a new cpu socket comes out and your upgrading. they have some of the best fans as well. I think the noctua nhd-14 is phenomenal value ( fans alone are worth close to $50 if you bought them individually.), since you will never have to replace it.

if you buy a cheap cooler.... you get what you pay for 9 times outta 10

I dont think it will work, as the haswell CPU's tend to get very hot when overclocking because of the internal VRM, so a liquid cooler would be a better idea.  Something like an h80i should be more then enough.

The EVO might be able to get a small overclock though.

Overclocking on Haswell chips may vary but I think you will be able to achieve 4.2Ghz on that cooler but its not a guarantee since some chips are horrible at overclocking. I would get a better cooler like a NH D14 or a H220 if you have the money if you want to overclock. I would get another 2 fans on the top for exhaust in order to cool your cpu heatsink. I would go with a 1tb barracuda because it should give you better performance imo.

The Evo will be fine for 4.2 ghz and can hit up to 4.4 - 4.5 ghz if you have a good chip.

I think you guys underestimate the Hyper 212.

I ran my 2600K at 4.6GHz on a Hyper 212+ for like a year.  It wasn't 100% Prime stable, no, but I don't fold or mine or anything, so it was fine.

Is that as good of a OC'in mobo? I just threw something up there and haven't looked too much into that part as i used to have a 3570k instead of the 4670k in my parts. There's no SLI but I have to be honest and realize I'm never going to use that :P

Speaking of which, the Hyper 212 Evo is even better than the Plus. Ivy and Haswell has had higher temps on avergae when overclocking compared to Sandy. That's why people worry about cooling.

The motherboard is good. People tend to overpay for a motherboard because they hear it is good. Sure there are better but even the cheapest z87 mobo can hit 4.8 ghz if your chip and cooling allows it. If the chip and cooling is bad, even the best motherboard wouldn't make a difference.

I got my i7 2700K up to 4.7Ghz stable with a 212 EVO. In the summer the temperature has started to get a bit high, so I brought it down to 4.5Ghz. I get temperatures in the mid 70s at 100% load.

I'll go with the h100i, do it right, do it once. Funny thing is, Linus has a video with this case and I believe he also installed the h100i. :D

Now to sell this iMac……..

Just go with the build I posted and use a h100i instead...

I was thinking the wireless adapter didn't make much of a difference, I only have 50 down here. Also I forgot I had that little more expensive psu in case I did get a second GPU at some point but that probably won't happen so yes your build is better :)

In that case, a cheaper but still great wifi adapter: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/tp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwn881nd
