LifeCam VX800 Problem

I have the Microsoft LifeCam VX 800 webcam and only use it as a mic because I'm poor :(. But whenever I try to use it to make a video call to my friend on Facebook or Hangouts, it stops working. This only happens if the camera portion is activated as evidenced by me using it in OBS and it was working fine until I told OBS to overlay my webcam onto my feed, at which point the entire webcam stopped, no audio, no video. This is a problem for Facebook and Hangouts because there is no option to begin a call without the video turned on (immediately crashing my webcam when i make a call). This is frustrating as i have to use my phone to make the call over Facebook which I can not record in OBS. I have no clue why this is happening and no a new webcam is NOT an option unfortunately. (Again, I'm poor)
