Never mind solved it myself

if it wasn't something completely obvious you should post how you solved it,in case somebody else has this problem.

Apparently you can instal windows from a USB 3.0 port

Yeah I believe windows 7 does not recognize usb 3.0 until you update it.  I believe 8 should though.
