I don't have any specific model in mind, but in your case I'd be looking for something with an Haswell/Broadwell i3, intel HD Graphics and an SSD.

It should be a pleasant experience.

P.S. and 6GB ram.

HP Stream 13/15?

Specs look decent for light workloads and comes with free win8 (or was it 8.1) and 1 year office 365...

and build quality is decent...

otherwise look for a secondhand ThinkPad (the business class ones) and an SSD that would fit...

What I'd do is look for the cheapest laptop with an Ivy Bridge or newer i3. Then buy a Seagate laptop thin 500GB SSHD which is a hybrid drive that uses NAND flash like SSDs to cache the most accessed parts (ie: the OS and web browser, MS word). So you get a fast boot and responsive PC on the cheap. I actually put one in a aging Inspiron 1764 and it made a world of a difference.

The lower end Acer and Asus don't look bad, or like @DigitalHermit said a used Thinkpad would be pretty nice.

I'd go for it, ThinkPads are tanks, which is why they're the most used laptops for business.
