Letterboxing in Ultrawide monitors?

Any ultra wide monitor users here. Is there letter boxing on the screen when playing standard 1080p YouTube videos on your ultra-wide monitors? What about gaming?

The few games I've come across letterbox in cut scenes and sometime menu, but gameplay utilises 100% of real estate... but this may not be true of all games.
