CS:GO High VRAM usage

Go to solution Solved by Razarza,

4K maxed out with all the antialiasing options turned up

yea, it happens with CF and without it :( like stated tabbing out fixes it for the whole match so it's no big deal, but a fix would be nice ;)

Ah, well that explains all the VRAM usage, are you using any launch commands? Have you got 'cl_forcepreload' set to '1' in your config?

Edit - Also did this start happening immediately after a certain update, if so which one?

Hey, recently I've gotten this weird bug on CS:GO. Basically, when I first join a match my VRAM usage will shoot up to 3.5G and the game will be very laggy & will stutter. But, if I alt tab and tab back in the game will be fine for the rest of the match, and the VRAM usage will go back down to a standard 2 GB. Then when a new match starts, it will happen all over again.

Any ideas? I have a 295x2 with the latest beta drivers

That's weird, I barely hit 1GB in CSGO. Have you tried disabling crossfire for CSGO? I had a lot of stuttering before I disabled it and I've read about other people having issues with crossfire in CSGO.

you do realize u can just decrease aa a bit and it should fix it self

I think you're missing the point, 99% of the time the game runs at 2 GB of vram and has no issues, it's just on startup the game derps and eats up a bunch of vram

Be glad you don't have a 970 or you'd be at max VRAM.

This could be a few things.

  • Poor optimization in regards to texture / model buffer.
  • "Artificial" memory being loaded that is cleared upon actual rendering beginning.
  • A driver issue.
  • Any two or three of the above.

That's just off the top of my head, anyways.

I don't mean to offend you if it comes off as so, but.. have you actually tried re-installing the game, and making sure it's wiped after an uninstall? It's just a thought, and something you could potentially try.

Ah, well that explains all the VRAM usage, are you using any launch commands? Have you got 'cl_forcepreload' set to '1' in your config?

Edit - Also did this start happening immediately after a certain update, if so which one?

this is weird, I changed it to 1 and the vram usage before alt tabbing is still very high, but the lag stuttering doesn't happen so I guess it works :D

Well you are on 4k with 8x MSAA on, even though CSGO is relatively lightweight that can take up a lot of resources. Glad to hear your issues have been solved.
