Hello there,

I am helping my friend build her first PC, it shall be used for gaming/programming. I am selling her a few of my old parts to get her started (These are listed in the PCPartPicker link as "already purchased")

I have been picking out some other parts for her build with the intention of keeping the footprint of the computer as small as possible, as fast as possible all for a reasonable price.

Do you guys have any alternative parts you would like to recommend, or anything you would like to comment about the build?

When opening the link I get this

pcpartpicker.com$ open "/p/Dw6PWZ "
open: /p/Dw6PWZ : no such file or directory

Seems to be an issue with PCPartPicker, I will try saving it on my profile.

Anyway, on topic:

Pretty solid. I would prefer to go with Intel in the long run, but if you're selling them to her for a good price, the other parts are okay.

I would strongly advise going for two (or more) monitors for a build like this. For productivity, it's a must have in my opinion, especially for programming and other work related stuff.

I'd get a Samsung or Crucial SSD instead. Also, why the case fans?

Thanks for sorting out the URL issue.

Yeah, I am selling her the CPU, Ram, Mobo and CPU cooler for 250 GBP, which I dunno...seems fair?

And yes I completely agree with that, I am not sure what monitors to advise her to get, my guess is she is not too bothered about response times etc so a pair cheap IPS panels will do.

Suppose an extra £10 could be spent on a different SSD, and for the simple fact the mobo and case supports more fans, even if they're running on low, it would be piece of mind to have good airflow, especially when that GPU gets running.

Okay then. Usually the case has enough air flow to keep the components cool. Just make sure your intakes are filtered to avoid dust build-up.

Acer H236HL are a good choice. Cheap, IPS (still good for gaming) and have very thin bezels. If you wanted some better quality ones, the Dell U2414Hs are very nice. (I have several of the H236HLs, and plan on buying two of the Dell monitors at some point)

£250 is good for all of that.

SSD is fine. SanDisk is a good make. Not much I would change really. Maybe some stuff from personal choice, but not from a performance standpoint.

Thanks, I will look into the options and ask her what she thinks.

Would you mind sharing your personal choices?

I'd change out the fans to NB BlackSilent Pros (Either the 120mm or 140mm versions), as well as changing the PSU up to a G2 series. The quality is much better. The lowest wattage they come in is 750W though.

I'd also want to change out the case to a Define R4 or R5. Or maybe a Phanteks Enthoo Pro. They're more expensive though, and the Phanteks is a fair bit larger.

I will have a look at the fans and PSU thank you.

I own the Define R4 and she has said that it is too big for her uses, there is no doubt though that the Phanteks cases are beautiful.
