Hey guys,

On one of my desktops I have 3 HDD, on one I have Windows 7, on another, I have it partitionined with Windows 8.1 on one of its partitions.

I'm currently updating Win 7 to 8.1 as well, using the keep all apps feature of the installer and my doubts are:

- Will this installer replace or update my current Win 8.1 boot manager?

- If I decide to delete the current 8.1 partition, will the mbr manager boot directly this install or do I have to "recover" though the install media? Also, will it automtically update this installs boot manager entries or do i have to delete the old 8.1 entry manually?

Thanks in advance.

If there's already a bootloader on any HDD the setup routine will just add the new install to the existing loader but the overall outcome really depends on how your current dual boot is setup.

Without knowing exactly which drive/s your current 7 & 8 installs are booting from its an impossible question to answer.

The main question you should be asking yourself, why'd you want to dual boot 8.1 with 8.1?

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

I don't. I firstly had Windows 7 and then created a partition when 8 came out (This was right on launch, I wasn't used to 8 yet).

I ended up using Windows 8 (later 8.1) for my everyday small stuff andonly went to 7 to play games.

I decided now to upgrade 7 and free 8.1 partition.

Either way, I deleted the old bootloader when I deleted the old 8.1 partition, so the system made an old BCD pointing to the Windows 8.1 upgraded from 7 bootloader, I had to rebuild the boot manager from the install media.
