Alright, so this has been affecting me for quite some time now, around a year or so. So whenever I go to plug in a new device (whether it be a usb mouse, flashdrive, keyboard, controller, etc.), the driver never installs. It is always looking for a Windows update, sometimes it finds it, but 100% of the time it always pops up with a failure installing it. I am only able to use the keyboard and mouse that I started using about 2 years ago. This is rather unfortunate for me, as I new mouse and keyboard, as well as a game controller, just sitting on my desk collecting dust because they are unusable. I cannot use anything but the cheap hardware I have connected to the computer.

Futhermore, Windows update will not work at all. I have 14 drivers waiting to be installed in Windows update, including graphics adapters for my Intel chipset and nVidia graphics card, windows update, mouse software, display drivers, etc. Whenever I try to update them, it is always a failure or worse. Whenever I try to update the driver for my graphics card, it always ends up crashing after my required reboot and I have to plug in the display directly into my motherboard, and from there I need to do a system restore from earlier in order to actually get my displays and graphics card working again. This is extremely annoying as I want to update my drivers for various games, but cannot do so.

I have tried everything to try to get this to work, but have achieved no good results. I have tried manually downloading them from websites, from usb devices (I have only 1 that works with my computer), everything. I am positive the devices are working properly as they work just fine on any other computer I connect them to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Hey,

Try some of the MS suggestions here to get Windows Update to work : https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/971058

You can update driver manually, go the the manufacturer website and download the latest driver for your OS and install it rather than letting WU do it all for you.

You can also disable all automatic driver installs by Windows. Unlikely but it is possible you enabled that, guide here  : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2500967

Let us know how you get one.

Regards

Ed

It sounds like Windows update is the problem.

That's where you need to look to find a solution.

Stupid question. Does your computer have the correct time / date?

Yes, my computer has always has the right time and date. I've never seen anything different within the OS aside from windows update
