Hello Forum,

As you read in the title, I'm having problems rendering a video. I recorded it at 2K 60FPS using ShadowPlay and also was playing it at 2K 60FPS on my 1080p monitor. My facecam was 1080p 30FPS. After I finished editing it today, I used a custom template with the following settings. I want it at 60FPS and in mp4.

These settings: https://imgur.com/uv...bpC98lt,gCnVDLE

Firstly: As you can see, it isn't detecting my GPU. https://imgur.com/uv...C98lt,gCnVDLE#1

Sencondly: When I click 'Render" using this template, this is what it shows me. https://imgur.com/uv...C98lt,gCnVDLE#2

It does render using the default mp4 preset though. I'm using Sony Movie Studio 13 Platinum (purchased from Steam). I'd like you guys to help me sort this issue out.

Thanks!  :)

Don't use your GPU to render.

Also, I'm not sure if it will work but, have you tried using WMV with a 90% quality?

And one last thing regarding your post, please, use automatic color, those of us who use the night theme can't read dark text on dark background.

What is that? BTW, what's the use of a 970 STRIX if I can't render with it? Just asking. (It's my only GPU)

Try to use WMV instead of MP4 as a render codec.

And I doubt you could reduce render time by using your GPU, you could try it with a simple video to see if I'm wrong.

The 970 is a pretty good card but if you want shorter render times, you should use a card designed for that, that's why Linus uses Quadro for rendering.

BTW, I can't find any .wmv render options except the default one which renders at 720p. And my parents won't spend on a Quadro.

You don't have a Windows Media Video in the templates?

And you don't need a Quadro, just use your CPU.

Can YouTube support h.264 videos? There's this codec available: x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Codec

Edit: It's gonna render as .avi

On both, it just switches the frame width to 2048 automatically. I can't even make it higher, it can only go lower.

If you change it to 1080p when you're using MP4 does it gives you the same error?

Maybe you need to change something.

I tested WMV myself and you're right, it only goes to 2048.

It actually doesn't. I have an mp4 1080p 60 preset which I use to render my other videos which are not gameplay. And it works perfect. I can also use my GPU for rendering with that preset. Please help me, I need to render this at 1440p 60, and upload to YouTube.

Ok, try this.

Set the resolution of your project to 2560x1440 and when you go to render in WMV, don't choose the resolution, keep the resolution in the (Keep Original Size).

Even though it shows 2048x1440, your video should render in 2560x1440.

The 970 is a pretty good card but if you want shorter render times, you should use a card designed for that, that's why Linus uses Quadro for rendering.

AFAIK, normal GPUs are fine for rendering, and Linus uses the Titan Blacks for actually rendering while using the Quadros for editting.

The drivers help in certain applications like Viewport 2.0 in Maya but at render time they often lose to consumer cards. The reason is that once the advantage of the driver is gone - during MentalRay or VRay for example - the faster card does better.

Sure the 970 isn't made for video rendering but it should perform similar to a K6000 (based on the fact it is slightly slower than 780 Ti).

Toms Hardware has a nice page on this - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-workstation-graphics-card,3493-31.html

Also, only effects are rendered on the GPU in Sony so don't be surprised to see almost no utilization.

Yeah, you're right, I forgot to mention that only a few effects take advantage of the GPU in Vegas.

But my facecam is 1080p 30, will it still render as 1440p 60? And I'm currently out of town, I'm going back on 27th and will try it then. Thanks for replying though. There's hope, it's just that I'm new to video editing.

I did a simple project, a 1440p 60FPS video with a smaller one at 30FPS (which would act as your 30FPS facecam)

and the result was a nice 60FPS 1440p video with a smaller one at 30FPS without problems, so I assume you shouldn't have any problems.
