Let me get this straight, you donated 3k?

Do what you do, but that sounds like a terrible idea, no game is worth that much, especially when it's not a matter of funding the game or not, Sony is going to be footing most of the budget.

Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/  750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R

No they are not. Sony's input financially is to advertise the game, market the game and port the game from PC to PS4. The development cost of the actual game is from the kickstarter.

A game that previously costed 50-75m?

Alrighty

I don't think it should be individual consumers responsibility to pay for video game budgets

I looked at the 3k rewards, you get the &$500 reward and a custom jacket

He best get a lot of mileage on that jacket

Common misconception regarding Shenmue.

The game did not cost 70m to make. Sega advertised it as such for marketing reasons. "Come play our 70 million dollar game".

Shenmue 1, 2, and a lot of 3 were worked on simultaneously and over many years. The first two games were Very far along in development on the Sega Saturn as well before transitioning to the dreamcast. That is where is gigantic budget comes from. The figure comes from all of that combined.

Also Witcher 3s development cost was just 15m. Food for thought.

I never played any of the previous two games, but from what I've read it does seem interesting. Can I emulate them on PC? Wanna play 'em.

Absolutely. nullDC is the best way as far as I understand.

Play them with an open mind though. Shenmue is one of the most impactful and innovative games of all time. It defined the open world genre of video games. Before Shenmue all we had were games like Elder Scrolls 1 and 2 which were just procedurally generated. Shenmue is the first game I remember having an extremely detailed open world where everything was hand placed. There were huge buildings with hundreds and hundreds of rooms in each one that you would probably never see that were all completely different. Nothing was copy/pasted. You can walk into computer shops and see boxes and shelves full of old motherboards and ram, and cables and connectors all with prices on them and specs. You could go into a grocery store and pick up an orange and inspect it and turn it around in your hands. So much detail. And two years before GTA III.

But you spend probably 10 minutes all game in combat. It's all walking and talking to NPCs while you try to figure out where you are supposed to be going. So they're very much slow paced games. You're meant to just feel lost in a foreign country. Its awesome.

This is due to Polish peanut tier wages

Japan on the other hand is one of the most expensive places to make games

Suzuki said it was 47M for the first

You can but you're on your own to find the image files, if you own the discs might want to look up how to rip them using a dvd-rom drive or BD-Rom drive but it's not an easy task I'll tell you that much...

But it is fun playing shenmue in widescreen (and no it's not stretched)

NullDC is a nifty emulator that you may want to try out.
