After spending a fair amount on my PC, I thought it would probably be time to upgrade my peripherals (bar the monitor, I just got a new one).

The keyboard, mouse and headset are part of a bundle I got from Novatech for £50 (it is now £40). http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/peripherals/keyboards/gaming/ekm806regb-iu.html

I like them, they're good enough. I'm especially impressed with the mouse. However, I'm not a mouse expert, so I'm none the wiser.

Firstly, how much difference does a proper gaming mouse, from a reputable firm, make? I'm looking at the Corsair Sabre RGB for my next mouse. http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/peripherals/ch-9000056-eu.html

Secondly, how much of a difference is a mechnical keyboard to a regular membrane keyboard? I'm looking at the Cooler Master Quick Fire TK Cherry MX Blue. http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/peripherals/sgk-4020-gkcl1-uk.html

I don't think I need any convincing on a new headset. I'm interested to observe what 7.1 surround is like! I'm looking at the Gamdias EROS Gaming Headset. http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/peripherals/microphonesandheadsets/ghs2200-bk.html

So, are the upgrades worth it?

Well that mouse has a laser sensor so it realistically wouldn't improve anything for gaming. If you want a "fits like a glove" -type mouse with a good sensor then check out the Mionix Naos 7000. (feels like I've recommended this mouse a lot today...)

That keyboard is pretty good if you like blues. I would suggest you check out the link in my sig for info on switches. Just to let you know, very rarely does a mechanical keyboard improve any actual gaming skill for anybody.

For the headset, I don't know a ton about audio (we have a subforum for that) but I have heard good things about the Hyper X Clouds.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

The feel & sound is completely different from membrane keyboards.

Red, blue & brown switches are the most common. You're looking at blue switches, which is the loudest switch + has a lot of tactical feedback. Good for typing, bit meh for gaming imo (all preference though).

I recommend the Quickfire storm XT over TK just for the build quality though.

Keyboard -> CM Quickfire XT (red, brown or blue switch) depends on what u want for switch.

Mouse -> Zowie FK 1 or FK 2 for fingertip/clawgrip. G400/Deathadder for palmgrip.

You have to look for optical mice, not laser. Laser has acceleration which is really bad for (FPS)gaming.

Headset - Hyper x Cloud 2 or Gamescom 780

The Corsair Sabre RGB is spec'd as an optical mouse. Is this incorrect?

What keyswitch would you guys recommend? I kind of like the Blues due to the click, but I've not had extensive experience with mechanical keyboards, so I can't say.

I Have tried both blue and red switches (i use razer now though), Now for the blue switch the sounds of the click while typing and playing the games were awesome but the Red switches just felt alot smoother, easier to click, and i found myself being able to type and play longer on them due to the blue switch having more pressure to click them. Also if you game with friends while in skype, TS, etc then the Blue switches can be quite annoying for them, Like when i use my razer which uses green switches which is very relative to the mx blues.

Keyboard switches:

Red is a linear switch where you hear no sound from the switch and it also has no bump. When you ofcourse bottom it out, you'll hear a sound, but that's with every switch. I've had all keys and I love the reds, as I dislike the bump/clicky sound, especially in FPS games such as CS:GO. it gets really annoying to feel the bump & hear the clicky sound just for walking all the time (WASD).

Blue had the feeling as if there was sand between the keys so I disliked it by a lot.

You can also easily wake up your parents if you're typing/gaming on them while they're on the same floor. It's also annoying for communication, as your friends/teammates can hear your blue switches through the mic. It's that loud.

But it's down to preference. Some like brown or blue and others the reds. I use reds myself.

As for browns, I never tried them.. but they're inbetween the red & blue. No clicky sound, but it does have a bump. I want to try them out myself aswell.. maybe I like them even more than my reds, but I don't know. I love reds right now for typing & gaming!

i recommend rying to find a shop/retailer in your city and try a mech keyboard out. Mostly there will be a razer blackwidow with blueswitches you can try out. Just use this to see if you like the blue switch.

So in short, no one can recommend you a certain key. They all perform the same, but the feel & sound is different. Try to find youtube videos of sound comparison and/or go to a local shop and try it out urself!

There is no better or worse switch. They're all Cherry MX, just different feel/sound to them.

Mouse:

"Perhaps that's why Corsair's new Sabre RGB mouse comes in two different flavors. One is equipped with an 8200-DPI laser sensor that promises "ultra-precise tracking on nearly any surface," while the other uses a 6400-DPI optical unit that only commits to "smooth, accurate tracking."

So yes, it also has an optical sensor, but I don't think it's that great. The mice I mentioned have really nice AVAGO sensors, which are basically the best you can get. They have awesome tracking and can track high speeds which is good for low sens users in cs:go.

There is no Avago anymore, also 3988>3310.

If you can afford it, get Astros. A50's or A40's. Best headset you will ever buy.

Are you dumb?  Headsets are dumb in the first place, Astro just makes it even more overpriced.  The HyperX Clouds are the only good thing that you will find if you aren't into mod mic.

The astros can't even be considered a headset. The microphone quality is one of the worst i've ever heard on a headset. One of my friends has the a50 and it's horrible lol. For the same price you can get nice headphone + modmic OR for less money a decent/good headset such as the hyper x cloud or gamescom 780.

I once listened to people on MLG CoD JUST to listen to the mic quality.  I wanted to throw up, lol.  The sound also probably sucks, the only reason of why people buy it is for the branding.  You could get an EXTREMELY better headphone + mod mic for cheaper.
