I would just get two sticks of 8gb of ram because it is cheaper. If your friend is not overclocking alot you don't need a H100. The Cooler Master Hyper 212 is good enough.

In that case 16 gb will be helpful if he isn't overclocking then he can get a xeon 1231v3 which give i7 performance but for an i5 price.

If he is going to game, then I do not recommend the xeon 1231v3.

not that intensive, just a little here and there, the i5 4690k should do for that...

Back when I first got a PC, I purchased this combo, roughly about four years ago. This may have just been a bad model, but my mouse broke within the first week, and the 'Q', 'R', 'V', and 'A' keys fell off the keyboard after a mere two weeks of use. I did not bang the keyboard, or abuse the mouse like some people. It may just be worth it to go for some higher-end peripherals like I did, in the end.

The experience you had seems to be specific and uncommon. Some things are just DOA. I've beat the crap out of mine and spilled soup on it and it's still working perfectly :) all depends on how well you treat your things

The CM storm Devastator has to be the best bang for the bang combo, only issue I've encountered was the mouse's left click dying on my friend after a year of use.

I agree with this. Go with the $25 Aula LED backlit keyboard, and the E-3lue Mazer II Mouse. These are both phenomenal, well-built products.

I would change the mouse and keyboard as that bundle has some bad reviews

Why? For gaming?  I don't think so.

no, he will be needing it for video editing.

By putting that CM storm combo, I mean any generic combo under $30...

This will render video faster than an overclocked i5 and it perform the same in games as the i5, clock for clock:  http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31231v3

But will it out perform the 4790k in gaming? and video editing?

The i7 is better simply because of the clock speed.  You have an i5 in the list BTW.  The i7 is $100 more than the Xeon.

Ik i have an i5 on the list, because my friend plans on getting an i5. But the thing is, would he be better off if he were to spend the extra $100 and get the i7 4790k over the i5 4690k?
