My new rig! Pleas help (more as one person please)

Hi guys

I'm planning on building my own pc, I already build one for a friend of mine, wich was almost equal to mine. The one that I am planning is a bit more expensive, but i know how to build it.

So first things first, can you guys give me some advise on my build? (this is the MAX budget i can spend so don't go over it)

Here are my parts:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9sXy23

(Disclaimer: i couldnt find the PSU that i chosen so i picked an equal one in order of getting the list right. I picked this: http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/node/2583.

It is a modular PSU with two 6+2 pins for my graphicscard, so it will be fine i think. just keep this in mind.)

-Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (should i overklock it?)

-MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

-Kingston Fury Red Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1333 Memory (to much? gaming and video editting+recording?)

-MSI Radeon R9 280X 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card

-Thermaltake Water 3.0 Performer 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (where should i mount rad+fan?)

-Corsair Air Series AF120 Red 52.2 CFM 120mm Fan X2 (they are the same as the fan already in the case, need more? less?)

(where should i mount them? I was thinking to remove the one on the rad and replace it with 1 AF120 and putting the stock white fan somewhere else?)

-Corsair SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case

-Sharkoon WPM600 Bronze, 600 Watt PSU (http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/node/2583)

-Sandisk Solid State Drive 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (is this a good choice? i just picked the cheapest one?) (i wanna install windows on it and LoL)

-Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (just mass storage for files and movies) (is this the best price/$ 1TB choice?)

And this monitor:

LG 25UM65-P 60Hz 25.0" Monitor (its an Ultra Wide monitor of 25 inch) (is this good? is there a better one for this price? (i pay 199euros = 224.07USD))

I appreciate your help!

Thanks a lot for helping me out!

Sorry for my english, i did my verry best, i'm from belgium and speak Dutch

get a air cooler, that low end liquid cooler won't do any good over a air cooler of the same price, unlesss its just for cosmetics

Don'y buy a 280X yet. The AMD 300 series is really close to being launched. It already has in some cases...

Hey!

Looking pretty good, but in my opinion you only need 8 Gb of ram (you can buy more later if you need to).

Wait, what is your max budget?  The 280X has no price... so I am guessing $1250?

- I just chose the liquid cooler for its looks

- My budget is 1150 euros=1,295.35 USD

- If i wait on the 300 series, i will pay more for the same performance? am i right?

- sure of the 8GB, i want fast rendering? and if i buy it in a 2 8GB kit, isnt it cheape than buying later a second 8GB?

SLI compatibility would raise the price to 1350 euros... I can try to cut this down some more, to 1150 euros.

So...

The 25" widescreen is not so good.  It is too small, it will look thin.  To keep the budget down, buy one monitor now, and add a second one later.  I also left out the cooler.  You can add a CPU cooler later and it is not much trouble at all.  Stock cooling is fine.

-First, is the STRIX necessary? The 970 from MSI costs me much less?

- i really wanna keep the case, i love the SPEC 01

- I would really like watercooling because of the looks on the cpu

- the motherboard is blue, i has to be red with black

- so if i take the 29 inch, it will be fine?

27 or 29 is much better for widescreen.

MSI 970 is fine.

the Spec 01 is fine...but really nothing special.  That cheap Thermaltake does the same job, but no window.

No, the motherboard does not have to be black and red, blue ones are just as good   jk

Buy a cooler later as it is pretty useless anyways... unless you need the 4.5GHz for rendering/editing, because you do not need the overclock for gaming.

the 1150 euros is a max price for the pc, so the monitor is not included

So, no monitor.  I left the cooler out.  If you can save money on some of these parts, maybe add one in... but I would not sacrifice performance for the cooler right away.  This is SLI ready... you can add a second GTX 970 whenever.

Okay this looks more what i want, i am def going to keep the Spec 1, because i personally fell in love with the case (my last build was in the spec 1 and i love it!) dont think that realy matters, it is also a cheap one.

For the motherboard i think its good for me since it is red and black!

But the liquidcooler i realy want because i wanna do some fast rendering, so im planning in overclock the cpu, can you give me some advise on wich you should pick for a low price?

The rest looks verry good to me!

Okay... I have a 120mm AiO on an older system.  It is a Phenom II X6 1055t, and I overclocked it from 2.8GHz to 3.8GHz (1.44V, :( ).  Any more and it would become unstable.  I ran it like that for years with very good temps(around 65* Celcius under load).

Find examples of what you want, and I will help you research it.  The best/low cost one I found is the EnermaxELC - LM120S, but it has a blue fan:  http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/enermax-cpu-cooler-elclm120staa

If i do a bit of tweaking on the fan and put it in a spot where nobody sees, no problem right? Or just replacing the fan with a red one?

Yeah, that is perfectly fine.  You could maybe just rip out the LEDs.

Is it possible to realy rip them out?

Yes.  Maybe even easier to disconnect the power to them...cut the line.

You think that's gonna do the job when i overclock the 4690k?

Yes and no.  If you are looking for a modest/good overclock 4GHz-4.3GHz, yes.  If you are looking to push 4.7GHz+ to find the limits of the CPU, you might have some heat issues.

It largely depends on the CPU itself.  How low can you keep you voltage... voltage = heat.

I also tought of cutting the line, thats maybe a bit risky but yeah.

For the overclocking part, i know it depends on cpu, but i think i wont take it that far.

Does the higher overclock affect the lifespan/performance of the cpu?

As long as you keep it cool, and keep the voltage down, the lifespan of the CPU will be fine.
