I have made a build with an i5-4690k in it and a z97 mobo so I know it is overclockable but thid is my first build so i have no experience with overclocking and I have no idea how to do it. Also, I have a friend who over clocked his GPUs and CPU but his computer ran into issues and he couldn't turn it on for a while. Also, non-overclockable products are much cheaper and I am over my budget at the moment, so should I overclock. Thanks

Yours Sincerely,

The Beast,

Sean Mullen

My budget is $1550 dollars and I will be gaming and schoolwork. Also, on this build I have a hyper 212 evo CPU cooler

Wait, I think I may have misunderstood your original post, do you already have all your components?

No, I will be buying the components next week, what i mean by having the hyper 212 evo in it is that I have it on the parts list.

So after going through your post history and seeing that you are actually in the US, here are the changes I made your your build.

Only minor changes since your original list wasn't too bad,

- Increased the SSD capacity

- Changed to a cheaper and faster 980

- Cheaper RAM and Motherboard, RAM speed doesn't matter unless you are using an APU

- Changed the PSU to a more efficient one for the same price

Your build was 1591USD, after my changes it is now 1543USD.

A 4690k should be able to get at least 4.2Ghz with a Hyper 212 at decent temps.

Overclocking an Intel CPU is really easy, just increase your multiplier/CPU Ratio and run some sort of a stress test (Aida64, Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, Cinebench, etc), keep increasing and running tests until it fails, when it fails that is probably a sign that you should increase your voltage, keep increasing it until you are able to get your overclock stable. Keep repeating that until you get what you are comfortable with. As a general rule of thumb you shouldn't need to go over 1.4v unless you are going for 5Ghz.

Linus has an easy to understand video if what I said doesn't make enough sense.

Thanks for all the help. Also, the reason the capacity for the ssd was so small was because it is going to be just for the OS but I guess now that the build is cheaper with a bigger ssd it doesn't matter.

The Beast,

Sean Mullen

-snip-

With SSDs getting cheaper there really is no point to getting anything less than 240GB.

Edit - Also when quoting large posts please remember to snip them or something, this is especially important when you are quoting someone that had images in their post.

Or if you wanted to you could just tag someone instead of quoting, @Mullen

Something to think about. I have never seen someone with a Xeon 1231 v3, which is a MONSTER cpu, screaming help in the troubleshooting forum.

Best time to overclock is when your married and you want a new system

How do you snip them?

You just highlight the text and delete it, most people like to type in '-snip-' or some variation to avoid any confusion. And btw the tagging worked.
