New PSU installed, PC does nothing

Hackthesystem

Hello,

I installed a new PSU in my system today, its the Cooler Master G650M. Everything is connected correctely and I see green LED's on my GPU but when I press the power button, the CPU fan runs about half a rotation and there does not happen anything after it. I already reinstalled my old PSU and then the PC posts without problems.

Is my new PSU broken?

Thanks in advance,

hackthesystem

Well if the old one works then yes, it's broken.

Is there a way to determine wich cable is broken? Because my GPU is getting power... :/

Why would you want to do that, just return it and get another one. You can determine anything with a multimeter if you know how to use it.

check if all the cables are connected properly, check if the CPU 6 pin connector is connected, if none of that works, try to replace the PSU with another one from the retailer you got it from

Does the PSU fan spin?

Does the PSU fan spin?

Well, I just tried again to turn on the system to check if the PSU fan is spinning and now the system posts succecfully. I detached all the sata and molex connecters before triing that but when I now again try to turn on the system, it does not post anymore... Could it be that the PSU needs to "charge" before it can deliver power to all my components?

Greetings

Ah... Its possible that one of your molex or sata connectors is shorting out and so the PSU turns off to prevent damage... hence why you get that half turn on the CPU fan. It could also be that the PSU is too weak and triggers overcurrent protection when you try to boot. Unless you have sli / cf the latter should not be the case.

I just tried it again without all the molex and SATA connectors but still nothing... So what could be the problem?

Hangon, to clarify: The new psu worked without molex / sata then you connected those again and it stopped working now you disconnected them once more and it doesnt work? Must be a short or bad connection somwhere... Dont know what else it could be.

If you wanna "test" the psu without anything connected use a paper clip to connect the green wire on the 24pin (theres only one) to any of the black wires on the 24pin (theres one right next to the green) and see if it works. IMPORTANT: Insert the paperclip BEFORE plugging the PSU into the wall :P
