UPS...not really off topic...

I need a UPS, well atleast I think I do, I moved to a new house and the outlets are utter shit. My brother already burned circuits in his laptop through charging using the outlets. I don't know how that happen, probably over volt but he is an electric engineer so yeah I guess he knows what he is saying, so couple minutes earlier, my pc just randomly shut down and the HDD made windows 8.1 got corrupted, after messing around with linux i was finally was able to get it to work, I was wondering if a ups is necessary? Doesn't happen that often and I just need to make sure that my pc turns off safely, I don't need to work on my pc when there is no electricity coming from outlet. Is there any dirt cheap ups that will be handle about 430 watt for couple of minutes, rarely will be used? *also note, my mother board has anti-surge protection, so far it did its work, so should I bother with UPS?

Try to get your electricals fixed first... The UPS will end up as a sacrifice and you'll need to get new ones to keep your stuff safe...

Sounds like you need a proper house inspection before you consider buying anything further. I'd love to see that report if it's already been completed on your "new" house.

Sounds like you need a proper house inspection before you consider buying anything further. I'd love to see that report if it's already been completed on your "new" house.

I am tenant complaining to owner doesn't really help, we complained like 4 months ago and after 2 months he came with a "engineer" who just changed couple of breakers

get one that has good protection against voltage fluctuations...

 

I can't recommend one since I have not used anything outside those from APC (decent ones btw, and those are the ones used by our university)...
