1000W Platinum Semi Mod VS. 750W Gold Full Mod

REX.exe

I was looking through the PCPP price drops and noticed the Fractal Design R3 1000W 80+ PLATINUM PSU went from $200 to $140, the same price as my current selected PSU (EVGA G2 750W).

But, the R3 is only semi modular, which doesn't seem that bad to me but may cause some inconvenience in the future. It does have a much better efficiency rating though and I do plan on going with 2 290s so the extra wattage will give me lots of headroom for OCing and extra hardware for future upgrades.

So what should I get?

1000W? You going for triple GPUs? that is overkill even for two cards

I would say that your current PSU is fine. However, it is worth considering semi-modular PSUs in the future as I personally find myself using most of the cables anyway, which pretty much defeats the benefit of a modular power supply. Might as well get a better PSU without the modular as it ends up being identical in set-up to its modular counter-part. Plus I do like that Platinum efficiency :)
