Hey guys. My 16th birthday is coming up and I'm going to get $1,000. I've got a car in storage and I have a job, but for my birthday I am getting $1,000.

So why not a GTX 690?

All I want to know, is if my PSU can handle it. Here are the things that I think will matter.

Total maximum wattage: 600W

PCIe Power Cables: Two 6+2 cables (same as two 8 pins)

12v rail stuffs: SINGLE RAIL 46A / 552W

Processor: Core i5 3350P @ 3.1GHz

Assuming it's not enough, what is the best I can get? Price is not a factor (so long as it's $1000 or less). Two 680's cause I only have two x16 slots? The only reason that I would prefer not to get two 680's is the mediocre airflow in my case. And yes, if you looked at my profile pic you'd have seen that the cable management is poop. I fixed it, calm down.

The Nvidia spec is 650 watts but you MIGHT just be ok with the PSU you have but I would suggest that you dont have a good enough PSU for a 690.

Here are the Nvida Specs for the 690.

nice zalman z11.

I'd highly discourage keeping that cx600 and getting a GTX 690.

I'd recommend going for a TX650 atleast.you don't want to cheap out on the psu and spend big on everything it can influence.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020

tx650 is 89.99 has $20 off and $20 rebate

or theres a XFX 750 pro

http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=XFX-750S&c=CJ

and since the GTX 690 takes @ max 334 watts,processor 69 watts,HDD 10 watts,dvd drive 10 watts,misc. 50 watts.

so 473 at max,so you should be with the TX650.

you could stick with the CX600,but I'd discourage you from doing so.

you could also go for a 7970 crossfire instead,it'd be cheaper and you get crysis 3, bioshock infinite, tomb raider, far cry 3,hitman absolution, and sleeping dogs for free.

supposedly this applies to a 7990 as well, although on newegg it has the standard single 79xx coupon listed.

dude! wait for the nvidia gtx 680 ultra or whatever its gonna be called its suppose to come out in February and is gonna be better than a 690 as more games can make better use of single gpu graphics cards also it was supposedly going to cost like 800 900 getting a 690 would be a waste of money :D

Corsair 650d, Core i5 3570k, H100, Galaxy gtx670, Asus z77 vDeluxe Mobo, 16g kingston hyper x memory.

It will still be slower than the 690 is most cases.

From what I've heard, I'm pretty sure the 680 ultra (or whatever) is 85% the performance of a 690, so it's around 25-30% faster than a 680.

And what performance you think you will get from throwing a 1000 $ card in there with an i5 at 3.1 ghz? total bottleneck and overkill, get a decent CPU, a PSU and save up until the Titan comes out, also the 8xxx series from AMD, you will have a better view of what's going on, also you will own the parts that would pair up with anything you throw at them, just MY 2 cents, pace

Codename: HighFlyer, specs:  CPU: i5 2500k cooled by a H70ish(2 rad)   Mobo: MSI MPower Z77   GPUs: Gigabyte GTX 660 OC 1150 MHZ core, 3150 memory both   RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16G @1600mhz   SSD: ADATA Premier Pro sx900 / HDD Seagate Barracuda 1TB/Samsung 1TB   Power supply: Corsair RM650 80+ Gold   Case Corsair Carbide 500R   5.4 ghz achieved on the good old 2500k, may it rest in peace. Current daily OC is 4.8 @1.41 v
