Traditonal skateboard or Long board?

skullrebell

So im looking to get a board to learn on, i dont plan on doing tricks  at all, just some skating, primarily on the sides of the Cape Cod Canal in MA,USA, its a primarily paved surface, ive been thinking a penny nickel board, may be a good compromise, since people say its a bit of middle ground, or should i build a board on skate warehouse, or just get a long board?

I longboard and I mostly just cruise and I, on occasion, bomb down hills.

The traditional skateboard is easier to carry around when you are not using it.

Pennies would be your best bet. Their ultra portable, offer amazing cruising, and just overall great. Skateboards are mainly for tricks and longboards have no portability. I know pennies are hard to get used to, but I got it when I wasn't very experienced. It's amazing.

This also depends on your weight. If you are overweight, pretty non-athletic, and un-coordinated a penny isn't right for you.

Height? I think you could do well on a penny.

You could ride it. Have you ever tried one before? They're a lot more wobbly than a long board, but that keeps it interesting.
