Hello all. So I am getting new key caps for my Quickfire TK and I thought that I might show off what I have so far. This is going to be build log style, but of course it is just for my keyboard. I am oppen to suggestions for some thing. (More on that below.) So lets start with the basic keyboard.

And one from above.

So I bought key caps from WASD Keyboards. The following is a mock up of what I will get. The F5-F11 will be media keys.

Since WASD doesn't have 1.5 CTRL I thought I might get Portal keys from Max Keyboards.

As for my Escape key I thought maybe  a Zeg logo. I also thought about switching out my OS keys for tri-force. Since I haven't gotten anything but the WASD order I thought I would ask what you all think.

Nice! I have a Tk and have been wanting to do something like this to it since i got it. It is good to see that people have come up with work arounds to the non-standard bottom row.

yeah. If you go to WASD keyboards you can get a 104 set and have the OS and FN key set to R1 1x1. They ALT is 1.25 by default so that is ok. No one sells the 6.5 spacebar so that has to stay the same. But then you can get CTRL keys from somewhere else.

Sometimes 6.5u spacebars will pop up on the internet. It just takes a lot of patience to find one.

The astute among you may notice a couple of things.

First that I have some extra keys. This is because I ordered a 104 set for my TK wich is basically a TKL+. So I have all the num keys and PrtScrn and so on.

Second, you may notice that I did not change out the spacebar or the CTRL keys. This is because WASD does not have those keys in the sizes I need. Row 4 of this keyboard is non-standard, so yeah. I have to work with what I got. However, i can get 1.5u for the CTRL keys from other places.

Third, you may notice that the OS keys are not Tux. My guess is I forgot to mention that when I put in the order. That is OK as I was planing to change those to Trifoce keys anyway.

Fourth, the F5-F11 are media keys and not F keys. I wanted this. and it looks AWESOME!

Fifth, This is board with dummy switches, which makes changing out the keycaps MUCH easier than other kinds of boards.

All in all this was a pretty good keycaps switch. Some of the keys are not quite down all the way, although I suppose that after some use they will fix themselves. Let me know what y'all think.

What?

So for the long keys (shift, enter, space) the keyboard either has a stablizer bar or dummy swtiches to make sure that when you press on any part of the key (not just where the switch is) that the switch gets pressed. If there is a stablizer bar, then you have to be very careful pulling off the keys. On this keyboard you can just pull up and not have to worry about taking it off the switch then moving it off the stablizer bar.

If you are still confused take a look at Luke's Ultimate Keycap guide.

I think that is the first time I have ever seen them called dummy switches.

I noticed when I looked back through his images and as that he called them that in a caption for a photo

Are you going to get the portal control keycaps? If you look on the internet you may find a spacebar that is 6.5u, i have come across a few.
