I have a few questions about amd 's catalyst options. I own a r9 290.

1)Enable gpu up-scaling should be on or off.

2)Enable virtual super resolution on or off and

3)The settings for video quality should be on or off as I use and configured media player classic with madvr and lav filters.

Virtual Super Resolution is downscaling, basically running a game at a higher resolution to than your monitor allows to make it look better

My current build - Ever Changing.

gpu scaling is to set resolutions on your monitor, should be turned off if your native resolution is fine.

vsr is scaling a monitor to "look" like another, ex: making 1080p displays look like 1440p, 4k, etc.

The third idk, never messed around too much with my settings on my card.

So in my case everything should be off. Thank you for the answers.

Heyyo,

One of the major issues with downscaling is UI scaling. If a game doesn't support UI scaling? The text could be extremely minuscule.

Thankfully lots of games with official 4K resolution support tend to have a UI scaling option. A prime example is World of Tanks recently added in UI scaling.

Here's what I mean, 1080 monitor with 4K downsampling and no UI scaling:

Of course, downsampling is the same as running native resolutions. You still get the massive performance hit of 4K using 4K downsampling and VRAM consumption... so as it stands? Downsampling is handy on older games with either a huge UI or UI scaling.

That's why I tend to use GeDoSaTo Tool tbh... Valkyria Chronicles does not have UI Scaling but doing it through GeDoSaTo Tool? It scales the HUD nicely. :)
