Total Combined CFM...

Go to solution Solved by onionring,

ratings are often (always?) wrong and tested without any obstacles in front (like you know a comp)

generally bigger fans are quieter for the same amount of air moved.

but there are more choices in smaller fan sizes some of which could be quiter with the same amount if air but those fans cost 20+$ each (thinking noctua or bequiet here)

but yes 2 fans side to side should push in close to twice the air but static pressure is also important with fan filters...

This may be a silly question, but I'm in the market to buy a new computer case, coming from a Rosewill Challenger. I was thinking of going towards CM's HAF series cases mainly because of their large 200mm case fans. CM's 200mm MegaFlow fans generally have a CFM rating of the 100s. Now in the case of the CM Enforcer, on the top you get the option to mount either a single 200mm fan or two 120mm fans. Now my question is, if I were to mount two 120mm fans, each with a CFM rating of near 50s, would the two combine to create a total near 100cfm combined? Or would other factors, such as air pressure of the two fans fighting to pull air cause a lower CFM combined rating?

or am I just rambling insignificant nonsense? I only ask because a 140mm fan can have a good CFM rating or up to 67ish with a 24dba while a 200mm fan can have a 110cfm rating with a lower dba rating of around 22. I've realized I'm not going liquid cooling for now because the price to build a custom loop, so I want to go for a quiet air solution.

thanks!

Anything I write is just a comment, take is as such, there is no guarantees associated with anything I say.
