Hi everyone,

I've decided on this setup for a gaming/graphical workstation that's going to last a few years. I won't be overclocking. I understand the cooler is overkill but didn't want to use the stock cooler. 750 W on the PSU is also too much but it looks like it's well reviewed and the price is ok. The GPU killed my budget but i want it to last years before i have to upgrade. Could i get some reader opinions on whether it looks ok? Will i need anything else to complete the build? I have mouse, monitor and keyboard.

Why would you run such a high end system on a PSU that's meant for true budget builds like that, bewilders me

i5 4670k - Z87X-UD3H - EVGA GTX 670 Sig 2 - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB - 8GB Avexir Core White 1600Mhz - Corsair 750D w/ RGB LED Mod & Remote Control - 2x SP120 - 3x Enermax Cluster - 2TB Seagate SSHD - Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 - SuperFlower Leadex Gold 750W

Because why spend an extra $50 on wattage you don't need?

It's not about wattage, it's about quality. Stuff like that EVGA, Corsair VS/CX are built for budget systems and therefore have a 3 year warranty for a reason. It has no place in high end builds when you can do better

3 years is way more enough. Reputable brand power supplies rarely fail these days and anything with an 80+ rating is good enough for any system low budget or high budget.

Spending more money for more efficient power supplies wont grant you performance. Instead of spending an extra $50 for 80+ Gold, you should spend it on a better CPU.

These PSUs are not good for high end systems; the capacitors used are very mediocre. The soldering quality is mediocre. The QC is mediocre. The PSU isn't great overall. If the PSU goes bang, (there is a higher chance of it), it has a higher chance of taking components with it. It's not worth cheaping out on the PSU of all the components, it's the component to not cheap out on. You'd be suprised how often these B1, W1, Corsair CX/VS power supplies fail simply due to the mediocre components used. It's worth saving $25 elsewhere to ensure the integrity of the system, having longer warranty and having better performance in terms of ripple, voltage regulation and so on with a better PSU. People say the PSU is the most important for a reason

Also, an 80+ Gold certification is irrelevant. A good XFX/Seasonic/Antec are often 80+ Bronze, but are also FAR better in quality in terms of components. 80+ is no guarantee of quality.

Why the xeon? The mobo does not support EC memory and you can get a better productivity cpu for the price.

It often has coil whine, and if you ever want to overclock it in the future to squeeze that last few fps out of it you can't.

I see no problems. However, you can buy a cheaper, just as good psu without overkill wattage. Also, I'd heed the 970 warning.

Thanks for the warning guys. It seems that other 970 brands have coil whine too. Besides it's appearance does anyone know if this one's ok?

From what i understood the Xeon performs like an i7 but is a bit cheaper. I chose it for it's hyper threading which i will find useful. Is it a major disadvantage not having ecc memory?

Its not that much cheaper, you can get a 6 core i7 for the same price (with hyperthreading)

Not in Australia you can't, you would have to be tripping fucking balls to find a 5820k for that price there.
