Hi all,

I just got this message:

Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter. We've reset your password to prevent others from accessing your account.

You'll need to create a new password for your Twitter account. You can select a new password at this link:

                                         (link removed)

As always, you can also request a new password from our password-resend page: https://twitter.com/account/resend_password

Please don't reuse your old password and be sure to choose a strong password (such as one with a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols).

In general, be sure to:

  • Always check that your browser's address bar is on a https://twitter.com website before entering your password. Phishing sites often look just like Twitter, so check the URL before entering your login information!
  • Avoid using websites or services that promise to get you lots of followers. These sites have been known to send spam updates and damage user accounts.
  • Review your approved connections on your Applications page at https://twitter.com/settings/applications. If you see any applications that you don't recognize, click the Revoke Access button.

For more information, visit our help page for hacked or compromised accounts.

Anyone got similar message and knows what has happened more than what is explained, I give 4 apps approval but the approval page which is a twitter page always says that they will not access my password...?

This could be a fishing scam, did you check the email address from where it was send to make sure it does come from twitter?

If is a scam, usually the links they put in the mail lead to a different page than what the link says.

Mystery is the source of all true science.

I never look at the email sender because they can fake it easily, I check the links behind the URLs, they all send to twitter.com

Lol, Ive gotten a email like that from Ubisoft and Bohemia Interactive. From their legitimate support email address's.

Someone must be doing the rounds hacking into everything.

Yeah I had to change Ubisoft account but I got no email from them.

Just log into Twitter... They said they changed your password, if they really did then you won't be able to get in.

In other words, it's fake, delete and ignore.

Sounds like a you problem. If you can't be bothered to look at stuff to see if its real or fake then get off the internet.

I got this before.  Somehow my account did get compromised and a spam tweet was posted.

It's probably legit, but just make sure by going to twitter yourself.

can we use for our new password ?... password ?  lol

#1 used password in the world, I use long and random passwords, I stopped using 123123 long time ago lol, also no two sites have the same password.

The problem is it does not matter how difficult your password is if the sites does not encrypt it well, I am not expert on this issue but that is what I keep hearing.

The last time Yahoo Mail got hacked, the passwords were found UNENCRYPTED on one of Yahoo's servers by hackers.... UNENCRYPTED!

I've had about 2 of these within in the past week from Twitter. If you try to log in, it should give you a window to reset your password - you have to do it to get into the Twitter homepage..

So it is not something I did but 2 times? that's weird, I had no spam sent from my account, do you use apps in twitter?

Neither did i. It was strange. Seems to be settled now. Had you changed your password recently? It may just be a generic-twitter thing which forces you to change your password after a certain amount of time. Not sure really.

No I never changed it before this issue and I changed it twice after this incident, I became paranoid now, go to settings > apps > Revoke access (If you don't want them)

not a question of whether you're paranoid, it's whether you're paranoid enough  :D
