I want to build a small gaming pc for my living room.

I've never been a pc gamer, always consoles. I believe I'm ready to join the master race. I stuck with Xbox and was an early adopter of xbox one, I've heard the jokes and jests lets move on. Basically I want something that is going to last awhile. I want to be able to play gta, if I decide to buy it a 3rd time, watch movies and play emulators. I'm going to have to buy this over several months due to the fact that I'm broke.

To wrap up, budget gaming steam box maybe $700 budget.

@wykyd welcome to the forum!

Here's a few things to get you started with an HTPC:

In a few months Corsair plans to release its bulldog PC meant for 4K gaming in the living room. You will also be able to purchase a keyboard and mouse set for your lap.

You get the small form factor case, psu, CPU cooler, GPU watercooling bracket (you need to get an actual watercooling unit though like Corsair H80i) and mobo all included for $299. From there you can choose your hard drive, processor, GPU, etc.

http://www.corsair.com/en-ca/landing/bulldog

Apart from that, I recommend building an HTPC instead of purchasing one. Just building a PC is great to customize something to your needs while usually being cheaper than buying it all built together.

I'm going to assume you're in the US so prices are in USD.

If you can stretch your budget up to $800 this would be a good option:

This is almost exactly the same price I came to when I first started looking into this. Main difference is I picked i5 4690k and nvidia gtx 750. The video card is where I get lost, too many options.

The CX500 is not a PSU you want to purchase, with mediocre performance, stupid pricing and mediocre build quality, topped off with a layer of a small 3 year warranty.

Better and cheaper

Few $ more but worth it

If you want you can go here http://www.gamersnexus.net/game-bench/1905-gta-v-pc-fps-benchmark-graphics-cards and go to 1080p and see some actual graphs on fps from cards. It actually even has the 750ti in there, and has a seperate chart for ultra and high. Might be able to help you pick the perfect graphics card for your situation since you're really into gta v. Goodluck bro.
