Has anyone ever herd of Fibernoire? Came across their site randomly and it looks like they have a 1Gbps service. Thought some of you guys would find this interesting.

Not them personally but some places like certain area of Vancouver have has Gbps internet for a few years. It is just now starting to expand rapidly because people are noticing how badly we are having it.

This with Bell CEO saying we should be thankful the prices are so low because they could be charging much more.

Never heard of them, but I (sadly) don't think they provide to consumers, only businesses.

They aren't the only one, Hydro One has had 1 Gb/s fiber networks for awhile now.

Bell is still charging $100/mo in my area for 80 down/50 up fibre. I don't have access to it, so it's $50/mo for 1mbps.

The thing I hate most ius the dat caps. 250GB a month is just not enough and to get any more you need to increase your whole plan.

New Brunswick has Bell Aliant (Bell bought Aliant out.). When Bell took over they tried to impose data caps and people complained, so we have unlimited data. :)

You will only see that in new residential buildings who got fiber installed.

But even then you're still going to be at the mercy of Bell, Shaw, Rogers, Telus etc until they upgrade the cables and hardware it connects to once it leaves the building.

Fiber cable is cheap, it's the cost of putting it under the ground that's the problem.

You can read a lot about what's going on across the country here.

in quebec they charge 10$/month to get unlimited(vs 150,gb caps). but it must still have a cap hidden in some fine print...

funnything is that all cariers copied this option and no one tried to sell it at lower price, (like they re supposed to if they re in competition...)

It's $30/month here for unlimited. At my old apartment we had Rogers with "unlimited", turned out there was just some stupid high cap. I did some math and if we downloaded 24/7 at the speed we had (45Mbps) we could actually hit the unlimited cap in about 22 days. We have Bell Fibe 50/10 coming tomorrow morning for $43/month with a 175GB cap. Why can't the ISP's here at least give us decent caps?

Even if we do start to see higher speeds coming from the Canadian ISP's, Bhell and Robbers will most likely be charging a fortune for it. :(

Thanks for the link jbr.

rhober was the 1st to offer 10$ unlimited in my region.

i m on videotron 30/10 for 66$/month... so with the pack it s 76$/m

at 43$ for 50/10, you got a *good deal* even with a 30$ data pack it s under 76$/m for 80% faster...

of course it ll be just a stupid high download cap but it s better than 175gb...

now lets think about google fiber price compared to how expensive our slow internet is...

btw what is the cap limit you found?
