Hi.

Just decided I'd upgrade to an SSD now, and so it should be coming tomorrow. Went for Samsung 850 Evo, and will be doing a clean install, using my HDD just for games/media.

I downloaded windows 8.1 in UEFI mode on my HDD, but I've forgotten if I had to do anything in particular to set it up as UEFI mode.

I also obviously want to install it in UEFI mode on my SSD. What do I need to do before going ahead with my windows installation? Doing some reading, I know:

1) Unplug my HDD when installing on the SSD

2) Make sure AHCI mode is selected on bios

3) No defragging my SSD

4) Enable trim (is this done automatically or through use of software/bios)?

Anything else I need to know before switching - most importantly do I need to create any partitions or anything before installing my OS onto my SSD if I want UEFI mode, or is really as simple as plugging in, booting from USB, selecting my SSD as OS location and letting it make the partitions itself?

Sorry if this is a novice question, never used an SSD in my life.

Cheers.

Windows 8.1 will handle trim. Also you can't defray an SSD on 8.1 it won't let you. The option will say optimize allowing you to perform manual trim. Also your setup looks good! Enjoy your SSD!

Cheers guys. SSD still hasn't come, getting impatient :(
