hi all,

So I'm having a few problems with my new rig here are the specs:

Intel core 2 quad q6600 G0

Hyper 212 evo

Asus p5q deluxe

4gb ddr2 ram

R9 270X

Wd blue 1tb

Optiarc ad 7230s

Corsair spec 03,

So here is my problem, when I boot into the windows 8.1 64bit disc it comes up with a count down with some text saying "inproper boot media please insert proper media and reboot" what could this be?

Try setting default boot to UEFI

I would reset the CMOS and then check if all the BIOS settings are properly adjusted. 

By saying "booting from the Windows 8.1 x64 disk" do you mean your HDD where the OS is installed or the actual installation CD/DVD? 

Also you can take that WD Blue to an already working system and run a diagnostic tool on it to make sure it is functioning properly. I would use WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool. Here's a link: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=79j0qA
