Tablet/Laptop recommendations?

I haven't paid too much attention to the tablet and laptop market in a while, so I was wondering what would be good for me.

 

• I'm willing to spend up to $500, but I don't want to actually spend that much if possible.
• I would prefer a tablet similar to the Microsoft Surface (the Atom version is in my crosshairs).
• I'm going to be using it for college and programming on the side.

The new Surface 3 is a nice device, though with the keyboard would put you over the 500 dollar mark. Have you considered convertible computers? Like the HP x360 or the Lenovo Yoga?

I forgot the Yoga even existed, ha.

I can get the keyboard and stuff through someone I know for cheap if I were to get a Surface.

Honestly I would go with the Yoga or the similar Dell convertible machine due to the fact it's a traditional style notebook with more ports and such.

So I ended up coming across a good deal on a Surface Pro 3 and I took it. I spent a little over what I wanted to but it was too good of a deal to pass up.

Got the i5 version for about $600 and I was able to get a mouse and keyboard for less than half of retail price. All of the stuff is practically brand new; Windows came with the Surface reinstalled so everything was fresh and the mouse and keyboard were "used" but I can't even tell, ha.
