As a real owner of a i3 4160/R 290 i can tell you I have not met a game yet that maxes out my CPU. Get the stronger graphics card is your mostly gaming.Even an I3 is a great cpu a 3.69Ghz it can run every game without limiting the gpu.

 

 

I was scared but was told some real facts. "upgrade path" am3+ has non. z97 does. I can go from a I3 to I5 and overlock that and still be fine. It's worth it in the end. And the reason I went with a 290 was because I got it for $200 CAD compared to $350 GTX 970.
