*Not sure if the right place to post this*

Hey LTT folk, for the longest time I've been directing myself to software engineering and generally that sort of field, heavy coding related stuff. Lately I've discovered my immense interest and love for hardware. What would be an appropriate major evolved mainly around computer hardware? Not 100%, something like 60-40.

Take computer science or computer engineering. Those won't do it justice, though. If you really want to get into the hardware sector, then you want to get some qualifications under your belt along with that delicious degree that you acquire.

Personally, I think it's best if you look for a background in both hardware and software, since you'll have to deal with both either way.

it's also good to have experience with networking, just so that you know how that stuff works.

The computer job market is huge, but it's also very competitive.

Not always true. You have to get real lucky to make big money in software. In the bay area, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering jobs pay the most.
