There are two types of surround sound headset "virtual surround sound"( razer kraken 7.1, hyper x cloud 2) and "real surround sound" ( razer timat 7.1) now I would not go in very deep in to the technology of each type but here's the basic:

Virtual- virtual surround sound is being done on headsets through a device that is usually placed on the cable of the headset and virtually try to create surround sound effect.

However that same effect can be achieved through free software such as razer surround.

"Real"- real surround sound headsets will place 5 drivers in each cups and through that try to Convaie a more realistic surround sound effect and while it might work it's not quite as realistic and effective as two good speakers in an open( or even closed) design.

So in short it is already well known that surround sound headsets are just marketing gimmick and instead your better off buying either one of the good stero headset( sennheiser g4me series, hyper x cloud) or a good standalone headphone with a mod mic( beyerdynamic dt770, audio technica ath ad500 are just a few of your many good options).
