Google "What is overclocking" and watch a video on what it is...

The explanation is something that should not be 'quickly' typed in a few words...

The video will no doubt tell you the benefits and drawbacks.

Yes you can OC an i3, but only on a SUPER SUPER SMALL scale, using the BCLK 100mhz and adding 1-2Mhz on top of that (102mhz)

(say your multiplyer is 26, times 100mhz = 2.6Ghz) but if you use 102Mhz BCLK you'll end up with 2652Mhz, which is not worth it at all really...

Drawback - Motherboards DO NOT really like a higher BCLK, you may get away with 102-103Mhz somewhere,... but things on your motherboard can fail going that high.

Usb ports can stop working, same as sata ports,.. any random thing on the motherboard can be affected.

Considering the risk to your motherboard (permanently damaging USB ports and such) it's not worth it for less than 100Mhz boost.

The reason people are saying you cannot OC, is because you should NEVER use BCLK to overclock, because of the instability involved.

Not worth it.

See my sig.. my locked i5, its a 3.9Ghz product, and I had it running @ 4.17Ghz (106.9Mhz BCLK) after 5 months, I was getting random BSOD's...

Back to stock - still getting them, although a bit less,.. and now my USB3.0 asmedia ports are fkd, anything put in or out of them = instant restart.

Do not take the risk, buy an unlocked CPU.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
