GTX 970 or GTX 780 TI , which one of those 2 GPUs would be better for a gaming build at 1080p? (Pointing out that the GTX 970 is cheaper in my country)

970, its newer and cheaper so why not?

EDIT: Also the 970 has an extra 0.5GB of fast and another 0.5GB of slow VRAM.

970 hands down. It has better shader support, is newer, puts out less heat, uses less power. It's cheaper. Go for it

Ok , thanks for your answers , but what about R9 290X vs GTX 970 ( R9 290X is cheaper here ) ? I've seen some benchmarks but in some games the R9 290X wins and in some GTX 970 wins , but I want a more future-proof card .

970 vs 290x is a bit of a toss up. both are great cards with advantages and disadvantages. the 970 supports nvidia gameworks features, physx, uses less power and produces less heat as well as having more tessellation performance. The 290X has a lot of raw power and the two cards trade blows. you can't go wrong with either one. i'd recommend the 970 personally. but then again, summers get hot and humid where i live and i don't want a card that puts out almost twice the heat since I don't have AC so that was a big reason why I personally went with a 970.

Either card should work well for roughly the same amount of time. So if the 290X is a fair bit cheaper and you don't mind a card that puts a lot of heat back into the room, then by all means go for it. If power consumption or heat is a concern then the 970 is definitely the card to go with.

I read that the 290X runs hotter , won't that reduce its life span ?1

Not really, the 290X was designed to run hot so the components are made of extremely heat resistant materials. Don't buy a reference 290x or a Asus 290x, they will run too hot. Most other coolers are fine.

Mah Build:  CPU: Intel i7-7700K COOLING: NZXT Kraken X52 GPU: Asus Strix GTX 1080 MOBO: Asus Strix Z270F RAM: 16GB GSKILL TridentZ RGB 3000

heat does not mean gpu core temps

non reference 290X run around 70-80 degrees. my gtx 970 runs at around 70-75 degrees. however the 290x puts out almost twice as much heat as my 970. reason being is that it uses up almost twice as much power, that power gets converted to heat as it is used by the gpu. the cooler removes that heat and dumps it into the room.

the temps of the 290X with a non reference cooler are around 70-80 degrees under load, this is perfectly fine. if the temps were above 90-100 degrees then yeah, it would likely cause problems down the road.
