Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and recently I also built my first pc (actually with help of a parent of mine which does this as a job..)

Today I was trying to run some benchmarks and programs just to see how they worked, and something in cpu-z seemed a bit strange. Basically I'm using an i7 4770 @3.4 GHz but as you can see cpu-z says my core speed is under 1GHz. I've seen it get up around 1.6/1.7 GHz max..

Since I still don't know much about this stuff I wanted to ask you guys if I should do something to sort this out or if everything's ok.

Thank you for your help

Welcome to the Forums!

Are you benchmarking when that CPU-Z reading was taken, the CPU does have an idle state where it will downclock to save power and energy. Just make sure in your power options also your computer is set to balance mode to ensure it will be the most efficient and yet give the rated speeds when doing intensive tasks.

Well.. it seems like I was worried for nothing.

Running CPU-Z during Cinebench says the core speed is at 3.7 GHz, so everythings ok. Just need to learn those little things like cpu idle lol

Thank you anyway guys

Yep all normal, under low/idle CPU load it will declock itself automatically and clock up when a program requires it.

One of the many benefits to engineering...

Back in the day it was...FULL ON 24/7 Load Clocks...., and thats it... (If you had 486 DX2-66Mhz CPU, it stayed at that 66Mhz for its life)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
