Worth buying older hardware?

If you're too lazy to go look at my profile, I'm running a q6600 3ghz, 8gb ddr3, and a PSU ready for ANY single GPU. I'm currently using the Gtx 260. It's my baby, but it's old and just plain sucks. I'd like to keep the oldie theme with my pc, so I was looking for a Fermi GPU to replace it. Yes, Fermi's are little furnaces, yes they munch power, and yes I understand there may be bottlenecks. I don't care about those very much, as my house is always cool and my brother is off to the navy soon which will remove his dual 980 build (which eats far more power than lets say a gtx 570.) My question today is, would it be worth getting a Gtx 480/570/580? They all perform far better than my 260, and are cheaper than new cards of the same performance. I have an attachment to Fermi, I had a 460 768mb that died with a cheap PSU a few years back. RIP

7950/70 go for insanely cheap this days (just make sure it's not mined). HW lasts a long time. If you get a good deal then I see no problem in buying used

Nothing against anyone here, but I had three different DOA's on a hd 4870. Not going Radeon until I forget that.

I would go with a 580 if you want anything otherwise say an extra 60$ or so and pick up a GTX 960

I would kill for a 960, though the bottleneck would be horrendous and it's not too "old". I want no newer than a 500 series to stick with the theme.

GTX 570s are usually pretty cheap second hand but you're right, you will be bottlenecked by the Q6600
