Capacitor repair?

Go to solution Solved by FruitBasketSilex,

Dunno, its been 6 months so I would assume no

I would assume otherwise. Try calling gigabyte.

Hi, Ive got a Gigabyte 970A DS3P and Ive had some trouble. A few months ago, I had a capacitor fall off, so I put it back on. It happened today, so I tried to put it back on. This time, the pin broke. I cant very well put that on, so can I repair this or pull warranty? I dont know how long warranty is, or if it even covers this. Any help is appreciated.

Can't you just deal with the retailer who sold it to you?

Is it within the RMA period?

AFAIK most boards come with a limited 3 year warranty.  I'd definitely call the manufacturer.

Definitely go warranty if you can.

If you cannot then which kind of cap is it?  Is it SMD, or is it through-hole with leads?   Either way getting a replacement should not be a problem from somewhere like Mouser.com but attaching it might not be real easy.  Most production soldering today is high temperature lead free.  You can't just reflow it, or drop a blob of lead-tin on top and expect it to work.

If it has leads then protecting nearby components with heat sinks, and using a high watt pencil should take off the old stuff, allowing you to attach the replacement.  If it is surface mount it is still possible but you are going to need a quality soldering station and a very fine soldering tip.
