Hey all,

I build a new PC 2 weeks ago and I noticed that the CPU cooler I'm using is running a bit high. I am using the Hyper TX3 Evo and these are the temps I'm getting :

Idle : 30 to 32 degrees

In games : around 55 to a max of 60 / 62

prime95 : after ~20 secs up to 90 degrees (would go up to 95 I think but I don't want to put my CPU through that :P)

I did some online searching and asked a friend and both said it's a bit too hot. My room temperature is around 20/21 degrees. It is my first build so the thermal paste wasn't on so good the first time, but I re-did that like 4 or 5 times now and I think I got the hang of it (last 3 times went good, don't ask me why I did it the last 3 times but I just wanted to be 100% sure it wasn't the thermal paste application!). I checked all the plugs and everything and they are in correct. When I run prime95 I hear the CPU fan speed going to 100% and I can see it is running at 100% in fan xpert thingy from asus.

My setup is

relevant info (if you cant open the image)

CPU : i7-4790k

CPU-Fan : Hyper TX3 Evo

Case : NZXT H440

Motherboard : Asus Z97-Pro Gamer

Memory : 2 x Corsair Vengeance 16GB

PSU : Corsair RM 750

Everything is default, I did not overclock anything or do something weird. Below are some pictures of the pc.

I have no idea why it is giving me such high temperatures and I kinda want to buy a new CPU cooler now unless you might have an idea why my CPU cooler is not working that well. If you need more information about the setup or something please ask. At the moment I mostly use it for gaming and the temperatures that it is reaching now are no problem (mid 50 to 60) but I want to use it for some heavier stuff later on (much compiling and rendering) so I think I'll overclock it as well then!

I did some searching to find a good silent/strong CPU cooler and the one I would have liked would be the Noctua NH-D14/D15 but it won't fit with my memory I'm afraid (please correct me if I'm wrong!).

So I would like to buy a new CPU Cooler, one that would cool good is not too noisy and fits in my setup! My price range is about 50 to 100 euro and I'm from Holland if that matters somehow.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I would recommend water cooling with an i7, I dunno why but it feels like the right thing to do and an i7
