Hi guys,

I have been doing some research over the last couple of months on what parts I should choose for my first build. I will be using the build for tasks such as gaming, browsing the web, software development, web design and virtualization.

For gaming, I will be hooking the system up to my 40" tv for the time being and then I will get a GSync monitor down the line possibly on Black Friday if there is are any good deals. I have come up with this system here (below).

PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/dtgcrH

CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£193.72 @ More Computers)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler  (£65.46 @ CCL Computers)
Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£89.99 @ Novatech)
Memory: Kingston Fury White Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  (£46.55 @ Amazon UK)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  (£42.47 @ Ebuyer)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card  (£272.20 @ Amazon UK)
Case: Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case  (£113.73 @ Amazon UK)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£89.99 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £914.11

Parts I can't decide on
I have been debating on whether on not I should go with the i7 rather than the Xenon, I do not plan on overclocking anything in the system. I have a budget of £1000 GBP.

I am also not sure on the case I was thinking of at first going with the Phanteks Enthoo Pro but then decided to go with Air 540 but still am not sure.

As for the graphics card, I will be going with the 970 for the time being but possibly further down the line going with either 2 970's or one 980ti if and when it gets released

A 290X consumes 155 watts more than a 970.

You would have to run the card maxed out at full power for over 6 and a half hours to increase your energy bill by 1 kilowatt witch costs around 6-10 cents, but in the winter that cost is just being saved from your lower heating bill. And if you did go with a 970 your getting a card that doesn't preform as well as a 290X in the majority of situations.

I know it's your first build and you have probably heard people say that if you get AMD cards your power bill will skyrocket but trust me it doesn't, and if anyone does say that it will, ask them if they are speaking from personal experience, I guarantee non of them have switched from nivida cards to AMD cards and noticed a difference unless they went from a GeForce 210 to quad 290X's mining bitcoins 24/7.
